Applications are now open for the 2-day interdisciplinary COSIMENA-funded event, “Theory of Change: Bridging Global Expertise for Young Brains”, organized in collaboration with the Neurosurgery Departments of Cairo University and University of Greifswald within the framework of the COSIMENA Call for Partnerships 2026.

The event is designed to unite motivated participants from medical and technical backgrounds to collaboratively develop an AI-integrated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for pediatric hydrocephalus patients, with a long-term objective of implementation at Abo-Elreesh University Hospital within the next two years. It will conclude with a structured competitive session, in which nine selected interdisciplinary teams will present their proposed solutions. Each submission will include a detailed system architecture, a financial framework, and a 1–2-year sustainability plan, ensuring alignment with clinical feasibility, scalability, and translational impact.

The winning team will receive full funding and dedicated financial support to turn their project into reality.

About the Event:

The program includes:

  • Three multidisciplinary workshops on Day 1 covering hydrocephalus, EMRs, and artificial intelligence in healthcare.

  • A team-based competition on Day 2 dedicated to selecting the best proposal for an AI-integrated EMR system and implementation strategy.

Participants will work alongside neurosurgeons, AI specialists, and healthcare innovators in a collaborative academic environment.

Event Objectives

  • Designing a scalable AI-integrated EMR framework tailored for pediatric hydrocephalus patients.

  • Developing a realistic implementation and sustainability plan addressing funding, financial transparency, and long-term integration into healthcare workflows.

  • Building a committed multidisciplinary team to collaboratively contribute to the digitization of pediatric hydrocephalus records at Abo-Elreesh hospital over the next 1–2 years.
